For the review lab on Monday. Come up with some protocols for determining if a substance is molecular, ionic , or metallic. Don't forget to turn in your IA design lab by midnight on Sunday. Also, many students have been finding the videos that are linked on the other resources page very helpful, check them out!

Turn it in is all set up!!! Below I have the class IDs and enrollment passwords for each of your classes. Also, I have a couple of documents giving instruction on how to set up a new account and how to upload a document. Good luck, remember "People" have problems with turn it in, turn it in is just fine. Don't be one of those "people" turn in early just incase!! BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR THE CORRECT CLASS!!! Period 2: Class ID: 8979702 Enrollment password: IBp2 Period 5: Class ID: 8979709 Enrollment password: IBp5 Period 7: Class ID: 8979714 Enrollment password: IBp7
I am glad you all enjoyed the chromatography lab, I am sure you can tell it is a technique that I am particularly fond of!! For next class make sure to get through the rest of topic 4 (4.3-4.5) we will go over these next class. Be working on you design IA also.
OK, so first IA lab has been assigned. Remember this is just a Design lab, we will not actually be performing these labs. The prompt:
Investigate a parameter that affects the solubility of salts made from Group 1 metals and halogens (Group 7) The lab will be due to Turnitin.com by midnight on november 2nd. Might be smart to submit on saturday afternoon or sooner, but do what you will. Instructions for accessing turnitin will follow. Homework for next class: be sure to finish 4.2, and do a little research on liquid chromatography and figure out why I am having us do this lab now: what does liquid chromatography have to do with Topic 4?? Have a great weekend. I have updated the calendar for topic 4. we will be testing before Veterans Day, Please keep on top of things.
HW. Do the questions from 4.1 to be sure you know what we think you know. Read (and maybe do the questions) 4.2. Review the IA design criteria exemplars below if you want a better look. I have posted the IA reference pages we looked at in class on the IB chem home page (with the guidebook).
HOORAY FOR DONORS CHOOSE!!!!
The grant I wrote to get us some new balances (including an analytical balance .001 accuracy) was funded!!! We should be getting them in class soon. Congrats on finishing topic 2/3. I have posted topic 4 from the text on the text page, it is in four parts, part1 is 4.1, part 2 is 4.2, part 3 is 4.3, and part 4 is 4.4 & 4.5.
Please go through at least 4.1 and 4.2 for next class, sorry for the late post, my computer wouldn't download earlier for some reason. Ahh technology. ;-) My cold is hanging on so I am a bit fuzzy in the head, if I have missed anything please let me know. I just added a new resource to the other resources page (thank you Avanti). It is a you tube channel with videos on all the IB topics.
